Kanah’s Maths  Learning Story
Term 3 2019

How do we solve a tricky math problem as a group?

Maths helps us solve problems we need to now.

Image result for kara coconut milk
VaVulangi is helping to make otai for a family reunion. She is going to make 26 litres of otai.

50% of the otai is coconut milk.

If each box of coconut milk is 1.45 litres, how many boxes of coconut milk will she need?

So first we read the problem so we know what's happening.

So we now that a box of coconut milk is 1.5 litres and the otai has
50% of the coconut milk  so we need to find out how many boxes of coconut milk she needs.

So I  did 1.45+1.45=2.90 but then I kinda changed my mind and I thought that we could half the 1 from the 1.45 and then we have 50% and there is 50%.45 left in the box so I think they need about 4  boxes of coconut milk if they are making 26 litres

.;lI want you to know that I am good at asking questions in maths because
when I ask questions I’m going somewhere and finding out more about the maths.

I am also good at explaining my ideas to others because I’ve got a loud voice.

The key competency I use well was making meaning because when I share my ideas everyone knows the meaning of my ideas.
I need to improve on my listening because sometimes I don't listen and then I don't know what we are doing.
The key competency that will help me next time is participating and contribution because sometimes I don't join in with the maths thats going on.
I want you to know that I find it hard to when I work by myself.

Tru’s feedback:
I think you are good at sharing confidently and making sure you understand because whenever we are doing maths you always take risks and make sure you know what's going on in your group.
I think you need to work on helping others stay on the waka.
